June Cleaver didn't actually come up with this, it was Marie Ricks, author of Project: Organization. In order to keep track of stuff and limit you piles you get 2 baskets or bins. Label one "in" and one "out." Place them strategically in an area you normally pass while going to and from the car. When you come home with project materials, school work, doctor forms that need to be filled out etc. place them in the "in" box. When you're done with them put them in the "out" box to be filed, mailed, taken back to the library, returned to a friend etc. Wouldn't it be nice to just look in that "out" box while going out the door and run a quick errand on the way to wherever you're going instead of searching the house for that missing item. The trick to really making this work is to set aside some time each day to go through the "in" box so you don't get backed up on projects and school forms.

Good idea! Great, in fact, for me as I just lost a bill to be sent and am now being threatened because it's late! I'll have to try this one.
see i am bad about the daily commityment to go through it-- LOL
Great idea, but I would have to add a procrastination box to my counter! I love to look at things and then purposely ignore them for a week!
My problem is that my out box piles up WAY TOO HIGH and then I can't find the things I am looking for. At least I know that it should be somewhere in the vicinity!
I think I would just keep piling things in and it would be just one big pile and then the baskets would fall over from being too heavy.
Remember that book you lent me a while back about the organizational strategies- I actually use some of them still!
I have an in box and out box at my house. It seems like the out box keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger. I really don't do well with that filing thing. I need to be more diligent.
You know, I was leaving the house yesterday and grabbed a couple of things out of the OUT box and it took very little extra time to run to the library and drop something off to a cousin. Now my out box is empty and I know all the things I need to get done in the IN box, even if I can't do them today. This system works really well for me because I have memory trouble sometimes and spend lots of time searching for late library books and things I need to return to people.
