HOME VACATION

In an effort to save money, travel less and have Grant's bed at hand, we decided to have a home vacation this year. Jordan, Katie and Alex each have a day next week in which they are responsible to plan meals, choose a main event, service project and quiet activity. Carl and I took the 4th and 5th of July.

DAY 1--4th of July (Carl's day)

Hiked Mount Timpanogos--"Are we almost there?" was the most asked question on this hike and the second most asked question: (coming only from Katie) "Are we going to get ice cream when we're done?"

Fireworks at the Country Club--It took just a few minutes to walk to the country club. We could actually see 3 or 4 different fireworks from this spot. Grant was really scared and hid under a coat for the whole entire time the fireworks were going off right above our heads. Though Alex plugged his ears a lot, he and everyone else seemed to enjoy it.

i think it's really funny Grant hid under the blanket. I didn't think he was afraid of anything. Was he crying?

Hey, we were just there and did Timp on June 30! Crazy! My kids complained the whole time too. We stayed at Matt and Mary's and totally should have called you guys! What a great picture of the family.

I think many families are opting for "staycations" this year. I think it's a great idea. Can't wait to see what the kids have planned for the coming week!

Thanks for sharing your trip! It sounds like a wonderful time. It's funny, but my parents did a lot of those vacations close to home, because my Dad couldn't get away from work and we couldn't afford any other kind. I loved the time spent in the outdoors and visiting the sites of Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona. They are some of my favorite places still.
