Innovations in clothes organizing

Since its getting cold, we decided it was about time to swap out the summer clothes with the winter clothes. A few weeks ago I heard about this NEW way to organize drawers. So we tried it. I'm so happy how it turned out. You can actually see all the options at a glance and fit more clothes in each drawer too. VERTICAL ORGANIZATION is always the best way to go, they say. I guess I never thought that it could work with clothes too.

that's how I fold my shirts...it's much better to see your options.
does that mean I'm organized??? didn't think so :)
Don't you love the change of season/wardrobe!
nice work.

LL, that means you're totally organized. So did you think of this yourself? amazing!

Not so organized here. How DO you fold your shirts? And pants.
And LL, I've seen your house. You are SO organized.

I have to fold my pants in half and then in thirds in order for them to fit the height of my drawer. I do the same with the shirts. Just stick them in vertically and there you have it.

Wow, that seems such an obvious way to put your clothes in a drawer, but it never occurred to me. Thanks, Jamie, for sharing! LL, do you have any other organizing tips you're hiding from us?

I've never even though of doing that, I am lucky to get the clean clothing out of the basket before it is grabbed to be worn again. Thanks for the great idea!

Okay, I tried it. Fabulous! Now the clothes fit in the drawers.

Great idea! If only it would stay that way in the kids drawers...One can dream!

So cool, I'm going to try that tonight! It looks a lot like a nice clothing store all lined up like that. I've actually seen little dividers that can go in between the rows to make sure they never move.

So, what do you do with the off season clothes for yourself and children?

Swimmingmom, I store the off season clothes in storage bins in the basement. Then I don't have to be sifting through them all the time.

That's what I do too. Hey, I tried the vertical organization today- pretty cool to be able to see all of Little Miss Sunshine's sweaters at once.

Just a question: does this make for more ironing? It would seem like there wouldn't be as many creases in the clothing, but I just wanted to check.

Melanie, I would say less, since nothing gets shoved to the bottom of the drawer and the compact nature of the folded clothes doesn't seem to make them too wrinkly. I'm not a big ironer though and wouldn't take the time to iron my every day shirts or pants. I keep all of my ironed shirts in the closet--it turns out I don't wear them much because I forget about them.
